Potassium Sorbate is an approved class II preservative that is widely used in preservation of foods, drinks, cheese, wine and personal care products. It is an odourless and tasteless compound having very high water solubility. It was discovered in the 1850s and is approved by the U.S FDA as a safe preservative.
